In this exploration of hacking, I move away from a critique of institutional structures—those constraints that arise from outmoded disciplinary boundaries, curricular edicts, and theoretical biases. It is not that I don’t have a lot to say about these limitations—I do, and I have—but at the level of the classroom, I am also lucky to have a lot of freedom. I designed most of the courses that I teach, and I update curricular materials regularly given the emergent nature of the work I do. Housed in the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, all of the courses I teach marry theory and practice, and I direct an undergraduate multimedia honors program as well as a graduate certificate, Digital Media and Culture.
